Continuous-Motion Swinging Rotary Feeding Mechanism

1. Operational Context & Technical Bottlenecks

Accurate material feeding dictates maximum cartoning speeds. Conventional gravity-fed, pneumatic-cylinder mechanisms used in intermittent cartoners fail to process low-mass products reliably. Conversely, fixed-position rotary feeders in continuous cartoners experience velocity mismatches with the moving bucket chain at high speeds. This relative velocity difference alters the dropping trajectory, creating dead zones and inducing downstream mechanical jams.

2. Mechanism Architecture

The automated blister feeding unit consists of:

  • Oscillating Feed Bin: A dynamic magazine that moves laterally.
  • Discharging Unit: Servo-driven rotary blades configured for blister plate separation.
  • Kinematic Transmission: Integration of an oscillating bar mechanism, gear drive, and synchronous pulley system.

3. Operational Kinematics

  • Velocity Synchronization: The feed bin assembly swings forward, accelerating to match the exact linear velocity and directional vector of the cartoner’s continuous bucket chain.
  • Zero-Relative-Velocity Discharge: During this synchronized motion phase, the servo-controlled rotary blades complete one revolution, discharging the blister plates directly into the moving buckets without trajectory deviation.
  • Return Stroke: The feed bin executes a rapid reverse swing to the home position, resetting for the subsequent discharging cycle.

4. Performance Data

The mechanism accommodates lightweight materials by replacing gravity-dependent free-fall with positive mechanical displacement. Blister plate count per cycle is fully programmable via servo drive parameter configurations, eliminating the need for mechanical retooling during format changeovers.
