Depending on the packaging materials and forming principles, Blister packs fall into two main types: aluminum/plastic (thermoforming) blister packs and aluminum/aluminum (cold forming) blister packs.
The advantages of thermoforming blister packs:
● You can visually inspect the product through the transparent plastic, making it easy to reject faulty blister cards with a camera or the naked eye.
● The most common material for the forming web is PVC; it is low-cost and easy to thermoform.
● Because the cavity or pocket contains the item snugly, it can use a universal feeder, making it low-cost and easy to operate.
The disadvantages of thermoforming blister pack:
● Poor protective properties because of poor barrier against moisture ingress and oxygen ingress;
The advantages of cold forming blister pack:
● Aluminum provides a near-complete barrier to water, light, and oxygen, extending the product’s shelf life.
The disadvantages of the cold forming blister pack are:
● The slower speed of production compared to thermoforming;
● The lack of transparency of the package increases the difficulty of inspecting the system to reject the faulty blister card;
● The larger blister card size (aluminum cannot be formed with near-90-degree angles) increases cost.
● The material used to form the aluminum film is more expensive than PVC.
● Because the cavity or pocket is larger than the item, the feeder should be dedicated, which increases cost and operational difficulty.
To address this disadvantage, the industry introduced the third type of blister pack: the aluminum/plastic/aluminum blister pack.
● This type of Blister Machine adds one tropical aluminum forming station and a second sealing station, allowing the plastic thermoforming blister package to be sealed with formed tropical aluminum again.
● Because the item is filled into a thermoforming pocket or cavity, it can use a universal feeder; it is low-cost and easy to operate.
● The inspection camera can easily detect blister card faults because the thermoforming plastic is transparent.
● Tropical aluminum has the same properties as cold-formed aluminum and offers a nearly complete barrier to water, light, and oxygen, protecting the medicine.
The characteristics of Blister Packaging Machine DPH260H3
● The alu/pvc unit features a larger forming area and a rotary-style sealing station, thereby increasing speed.
● The tropical alu forming station has a larger forming area and a higher output requirement.
● The second sealing station has a larger sealing area, allowing the plastic thermoforming blister package to be sealed with formed tropical alu at higher output.
● The punch station can adopt the crossing type; the trimming waste is about 1mm between two blisters, saving more material.
● Thanks to the rotary sealing style (alu-pvc) and a larger tropical aluminum forming and sealing area, the machine achieves high output. For 98mm*70mm, output can reach up to 180 blister cards/minute (DPH260H3) and 270 blister cards/minute (DPH350H3).
